The Maple Heights United Methodist Church was founded June 30, 1946. The first services were held
in the basement of Stafford School. and later moved to Broadway School
gymnasium. November 13, 1949 the church held a ground breaking
ceremony at its present location. As the church grew, to over 1150
members, a need also became apparent that with over 900 children enrolled in
Sunday school, more room would be needed.
A ground breaking ceremony April 24, 1955, began construction of the
education wing to the building. Sunday July 24, the corner stone was
laid with a time capsule included.
The first mortgage for the church was burned during services on January 28,
1955. This service was conducted by Rev. Bright, along with Gerald
Armstrong, church treasurer, and Wm. Brown, trustee.
The church's bell was dedicated on December, 1956, and remains working to
call people to worship.
As times have changed, this church has continued the tradition of offering a
traditional service to anyone walking in the door. We have a chancel
choir and bell choir, which adds to the beauty of the services.
